The Bull Terrier, often called the "Bullie" or "Gladiator", is a terrier breed of dog. They have an egg-shaped head, triangular eyes and a coat that's usually white. It was during the early 1800s the breed first originated where bull baiting and dog fighting is the reason they were first used for. They are more suitable as a companion for active owners nowadays. They can be distinguished by their imposing appearance and high energy level. Their earlier ancestors are the Bulldog, Dalmatian and various other terriers and are known to have originated in England.

They're identified as a medium sized breed of dog. The official male and female guidelines are 21-22 inches high with a weight of 50-70 pounds. The breed is famous for their playful, mischievous and sometimes aggressive manner. They can be suitable as a guard dog, as they are protective of their family though they are mostly accommodating with people they're not familiar with. In comparison to every other dog, they are not confirmed to be highly intelligent, and rank 66th when learning new obedience instructions.

They are not very suitable as a family pet, since they are too energetic with children. Other animals like cats, rabbits, guinea pigs or other dogs don't get along peacefully with them. One simple task is looking after their coat. They call for a proper groom every 6 weeks, and occasional brushing every week or two. They can be suitable for life in an apartment, but love having a small yard so they have plenty of room.

They are largely longer-lived, as is the case with many medium sized dogs, with a life expectancy of 11-14 years. They're susceptible to skin allergies or heart defects, but their most severe health concern is deafness. They enjoy hobbies such as daily mental stimulation, running or clowning around. They have a high degree of energy, and that calls for long walks every day to reduce the likelihood of hyperactivity or other bad habits.

If you choose the Bull Terrier you must be ready to be their firm pack leader and keep them as your only pet. They are not an ideal option for multiple pet households, but an excellent choice for active owners that can meet their high demands for guidance and exercise. One of the facts people find most appealing regarding this particular breed is the fact it is playful with their owner while still having the ability to look threatening enough to others.
