Westie is a dog built strong, deep and wide chest, straight topline and strong muscular thighs.
The head is densely overgrown with hair and is hanging at a right angle or slightly less in relation to the axis of the neck. The skull is slightly domed shape. When you tipe through the skull, we feel the smooth contours. Between the eyes is a slight furrow.
Nose is black and quite large, and forming a completion with the nose, where the cheek is slowly tapering from eyes to the muzzle. Teeth are strong and leveled with a strong scissor bite, and relatively large for such a small dog, because in the past has needed a good grab and because it had to hold onto deer.
Eyes are located quite far apart, medium size, dark as possible. The view is sharp and intelligent. The ears are small and are sitting firmly raised. They end tapered and not set too close and not too far apart. The hair on the ears is short and smooth (velvety). The neck is muscular and is slowly spreading towards the base and joining with nice falling shoulders. The body is compact, back leveled, loins are broad and strong. Chest is deep, ribs well rounded, which gives them a leveled appearance when viewed from the side.
Shoulders height is about 28cm. Tail length from 12.5 to 15 cm, covered with harsh hair, without fringe and level, as possible. Carried elegantly, not to be carried, wrapped over the back.
The legs are short, muscular covered with short, hard hair. The front paws are bigger than the last. The pads are thick and covered with short coarse hair, and black. Even the claws should be black. The movement is free, flat and easy. Its life span is 10 to 15 years.
