The Labrador Retriever has accomplished many achievements. This remarkable dog was bred to hunt and retrieve, (water retrieve). The main contributor to the Labrador retriever breed was the Saint's Johns waterdog a breed located in Newfoundland, ( Canada) . The Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog in the U.S.A., with mostly being used for hunting, service work, detection, and search and rescue.

This AKC favorite is a muscular dog with a wide range of weights from a medium size dog of 50 pounds to a large size dog with weights reaching 130 pounds. This breed of dog comes in many colors black, chocolate, yellow, white, fox red, charcoal, silver, and brindle with only the black, chocolate, and yellow being the only three colors recognized by the AKC as registerable colors.

The water resistant coat of the Retriever is a double coat with the fur of the under coat being dense and the outer coat being short, straight fur, rather slick in appearance. In addition, a long thick tail often referred to as an "otter tail". Degree of heights can range greatly also from a short 20 inches to a tall 36 inches.
