Important Factors to Consider When Looking for An English Bulldog
- 13/03/2015
English bulldogs are delightful dogs, small and bulky in size, families around the world turn to these flat-faced bundles of joy to add to their family. But there are many important factors to take into consideration before you make the call to that English bulldogs for sale advertisement.
The first important factor to consider when looking for English bulldogs for sale is to determine if they are the right breed for you. While most of the pictures you see of these dogs show lazy dogs that just want to lie around the home, they can be exceptionally rebellious and hard to train. You need to do your homework and learn as much as you can about the breed and the number of health problems that can get, ensuring that you are making the best decision for your family.
It is also important to note, that unlike other dogs, English bulldogs tend to only mature at around three years of age. In addition to this, they have short lifespans of between seven to ten years. There are a number of breeds which can last into their twenties and when you have younger children in the home, in addition to the dogs temperament, you have to take how long the dog will be with you and how it will affect the entire household.
The next very important thing to consider is the breeder. Unfortunately these are relatively expensive dogs and therefore they have attracted the wrong types of breeders. With puppy farms being such a big problem around the world, it's imperative that you find the right breeder who focuses on health and temperament and not only on the looks of the dog. Again bear in mind these dogs can suffer with a wide range of medical issues and you want to choose a healthy dog, rather than one where you will spend your life at the vet and can cost you a fortune, not to mention be devastating for your family with a sick dog in the house.
When you find a breeder, you will want to make an appointment to view the puppies available. By this stage you should have some idea on whether you want a male or female puppy. When you meet the puppy there are certain traits you want to look for. Identify if the puppy appears rebellious, independent, relaxed and obedient, affectionate or completely unpredictable.
If you have younger children in the home, then choose a puppy that immediately makes its way over for some affection. If you are an older household, then look for a puppy that appears relaxed and obedient, while if you have a home without children, then you can choose a puppy that has it's own mind and is completely independent. The rebellious English bulldogs make the best guard dogs, while those that are unpredictable are best homed in homes where there is someone at home all day every day.
Another very important thing to take into consideration when replying to an English bulldogs for sale advert is the age of the puppies and the age you are allowed to take them home. Most breeders will advertise their puppies from a young age, enabling you to view and pay a deposit for your chosen new house mate. Steer clear of any breeder that is willing for you to take the puppy home before they are eight weeks, ideally puppies should be between eight and ten weeks before they can go home with you.
The final step is to vet the breeder. Do your homework and ask questions. Don't be shy, ensure you see the paperwork and documentation for the parents and puppies so you know you are buying a pure bred dog from a reputable breeder and will have a great family pet moving forward.
