Why A Beagle Can Be The Best Family Pet
- 26/01/2014
When looking for a new family pet there are many choices that you could look at. Most dogs and cats will give you something that will be special, but if you have a young family then a beagle may be the best choice. Why would you choose a beagle over other breeds? There are many reasons and you will be able to look at those reasons by specifically looking at the breed.
They Are Fun
Beagles are one of the best dogs for kids because they are fun to have. They have plenty of energy so they will be able to keep even with the most active kid. They will keep on playing and running for as long as you do. Nothing makes a beagle happier than having playtime with you or your family. The beagle is a happy dog and the happiness is very contagious. You will take a look at your beagle's face and know that they are laughing all the time. Beagles will not necessarily play fetch, but they will enjoy every moment that you spend with them and you will respond likewise.
The Howl
So the beagle's howl may not be the perfect apartment dog. Your neighbors may not really enjoy the howl, but if you have a house then the howl can be very funny. There are different howls which you could hear from a beagle. The first one is the one when the beagle catches a scent. The howl is very easy to recognize and this will happen when you are out for a walk or if you are using the beagle to hunt. The second howl is the play howl. When you play with your beagle their howl may be a way to communicate with you. Finally there is the anxiety howl which can happen when left alone for too long (separation anxiety) or confronted with a stressful situation.
Not A Guard Dog
If you want a guard dog, then you can forget about the beagle. While the beagle may bark or howl when a stranger approaches, anyone can win the heart of the beagle especially if they have some sort of treat for them. They are extremely friendly and will fall in love with all friends that you bring into the house. There rarely will be any aggression in a beagle's character, even when they are trained for hunting.
Low Maintenance
The beagle is a very low maintenance dog. They have no disease or structural problems which they are prone to and that means that you can expect them to live a long healthy life. They also do not need much grooming thanks to their short coat. You do need to take care of their ears, and never let them off the leash outside unless they are well trained. If they catch an interesting scent, then you will have a hard time stopping them. That can put them in danger so exercise caution.
