Three People Arrested Resulting From Carlow Puppy Farm Raid
- 27/07/2015
IrishDogs.ie reported back in April - Investigation Underway After 340 Dogs Rescued From Carlow Puppy Farm. The farm was discovered in Myshall with the ISPCA’s chief inspector saying at the time that “even seasoned ISPCA officers” found the squalid conditions to be “truly shocking”.
After the farm was discovered in April, gardaí, Carlow County Council and the ISPCA spent 11 days removing animals from the site with the ISPCA saying that dead animals were strewn around the premises.
The 351 dogs were mostly adult females and included Cocker Spaniels, Siberian Huskies, Yorkshire Terriers, Bichon Frise crosses, Cavalier King Charles and Shih Tzus.
Of the dogs that were removed from the site, 10 had to be put-to-sleep based on veterinary advice. The other dogs were brought to National Animal Centre in Longford and all but three have now been rehomed.
Gardaí say that three people have now been arrested in connection with the puppy farm.
The two women and one man are currently being detained at Carlow Garda Station where they can be held for up to 24 hours.
The majority of the dogs had heavily matted coats which needed to be completely clipped and they were also suffering from chronic skin, eye and teeth problems.
