Newfoundland Breed Details

The structure of body in Newfoundland dog is very big, huge and strong in nature. The head pattern is big, broad and has curved skull circumference. The structure of backbone is horizontally straight and parallel to ground. The neck is long, bony and perfect curved up to the skull. The Newfoundland dog has long muzzle with the perfect stop at the end.

The colour of nose is black in black coated colour Newfoundland puppies and adult dogs whereas the nose colour is brown in brown colour coated Newfoundland puppies and adult dogs. The structure of the teeth is uniform in nature and the upper bite and lower bite meet together to make the formation of a uniform scissors bite. The correct overlapping is necessary between two bites i. e. the upper bite and lower bite. This is very important with respect to the dog show purpose.

The eyes are deeply well settled on the circumference of the skull and have deep brown or chocolate colour. There is uniform distance between two eyes of Newfoundland breed. The ears of Newfoundland dogs are tiny and triangular in nature and appearance with the small rounded ear pattern. The legs structure of Newfoundland puppy is very strong and massive and they lies perpendicular with the ground. The dewclaws in Newfoundland animals is cropped usually. The tail of Newfie dog is very bushy, feathery and has a bundle of hair on it. The tail always lies down from the dog and never usually lies over the back except sometimes. The Newfoundland dog has bushy coated hair pattern and this coat is said to be a water resistant cover for the dogs in rainy season.

The inner coat is said to be small, fine and short whereas the outer long coat is straight, long and wavy in nature. The outer coat has a lot of shiny appearance or look due to possessing oily elements. The Newfoundland dogs come in naturally black colours or black and white colours, grey and white colours with black markings. The Newfies with grey and white coloured and black markings on hair coat are called as landseer. In some American countries ad united kingdom countries the landseer and Newfoundland dogs are considered as a unique breed but in some European traditional countries these landseer dogs are considered as completely separate. In dog shows there is separate showing has been done of landseer and Newfoundland species. The Newfoundland has a huge and heavy body and weight but a landseer has not that much huge sized body. The legs are much long in landseer dogs but the Newfoundland has short and proportional legs. This is a main difference between Newfoundland and landseer.
