Breed Description

The Miniature Pinscher is a squarely proportioned muscular toy dog. A well-balanced, elegant and sleek breed, they move with high-stepping gait. Dubbed as Min Pin, they typically weigh 8-12 pounds and stands 10-12 inches tall at the shoulders.

Coat

The Miniature Pinscher has a short coat, with a hard, straight consistency and smooth to touch. Commonly seen coat colors are blue, black, stag red, and chocolate. They may also come in a mixture of chocolate and tan, or black and tan, with tan markings on the face, chest, eyebrows, and legs.

Activity

Miniature Pinschers make great apartment dogs if trained properly. This toy breed is able to suffice their exercise needs through playing indoors. The Min Pin loves to be taken on walks, and should always be kept on a leash with a wide collar or harness. It is important to remember that this breed should wear a sweater in cold climates since they are very sensitive to cold temperatures.

Temperament

Energetic, loyal, intelligent, courageous and alert, the Miniature Pinscher has the spirit that is large for their size. The Min Pin may be stubborn at times, and will require a great deal of early obedience training and socialization as puppies. But this breed is intelligent, and can be trainable if the trainer is patient. This breed will not tolerate heavy handed training methods and could bite toddlers or small children that play rough. They would do fine in families with older children and household pets.

Overview

Bred in Germany, the Miniature Pinscher has a recognized working role as rat killers in stables, living alongside horses. "Pinscher" is a German word for "terrier". This breed is presently exhibiting bright personality with high spirits, making them a prized and charming companion.

Care

The Miniature Pinscher is relatively easy to groom. Occasional combing or brushing, and a wiping down of a damp cloth keep their coats clean. This breed can adjust well to apartment dwelling, and thrives with a moderate activity.

Character

The Miniature Pinscher appears to be a smaller version of the Doberman Pinscher. Although this is not true, both dogs are known to come from a common ancestry. This brave and feisty working breed maintains all instinct despite being well-known as a family pet. This energetic breed is generally snappy, and ferocious.

Training

As with all other dogs, the best time to train Miniature Pinschers is during puppyhood. This is for the reason that puppies are more capable and eager to learn while they are still young. So, if training starts during this time, they will respond well to basic obedience training with the rules that is established. Though this is true, heavy-handed training methods should never be used. Instead, use positive but firm techniques.

Training toy breeds such as this Miniature Pinscher, going outside can be a challenge. The key in solving this issue is to establish a routine, taking them outside every couple of hours, and adhering with it.
