Stop Weimaraner barking

Now that you have decided to stop your Weimaraner barking in your house, you will have worked out there is only so much you can do to solve the problem. After all, dogs will always want to bark. No matter what breed and sophistication over the last several thousand years, they still will always want to vocalize what their feelings and needs are.

The causes of Weimaraner barking

Many dogs will bark for a variety of reasons, when they are excited, when they get angry or they bark when something scares them. Here are a few things that might cause your Weimaraner to start barking:

  • Territorial issues barking
  • Panic barking
  • Seeking attention barking
  • Welcome Barking
  • Barking out of frustration
  • Habitual barking
  • Injury or ailment related Barking

Barking is always going be a main part of a dog's personality. You can't stop dogs from barking completely. They're going to give voice to vent their feelings, no matter what you try do to impede their natural behaviour.

How you can stop dogs from barking

When the dog does not want to stop barking, you need to first work out whether the behaviour is justified. Most times the barking is not warranted and it should be able to be controlled. If you have decided that your dog's excessive barking has to be controlled, ask these questions of yourself.

  • When is the dog barking?
  • What is making the dog bark?
  • Is there a trigger that specifically sets off the dog barking?

If you think that the dog is barking because it is looking to protect its space or is scared of something, it is no good to yell at your dog to make it stop. Using negative reinforcement to stop defensive barking can often lead to more aggression. Your dog will not understand what is expected of him. They stop barking, but all the territorial problems are still there.

You will have to work on creating a situation so that your dog won't need to feel the urge to protect its territory. You will need to take charge of your home. Be the leader of the household and to let the dog know you are in charge of defending that territory.

Also, you could simply limit the dog's viewing ability so that it can't see threats to its terrain. You can close the curtains so your dog cannot see people walking by or you can get a fence so they can't see outside of the yard.

How to stop barking dogs that have anxiety problems

If your Weimaraner has anxiety problems, the barking is possibly a symptom of a major problem. They want to connect with you and will constantly bark until you come home. A lot of the time this is caused because you have tolerated this behaviour in the past.

When you return and they become excited, you give them attention immediately. Rather than giving them any attention, you then ignore the dog for about ten to fifteen minutes so they don't associate your coming home with attention. Finally, to break the behaviour you should teach your dog when to speak and when to be quiet.

Dog barking does not have to be the problem of the community that it has become. Learn how to control the barking early and won't need to worry about the neighbours knocking on your front door when you get home.
