Hi everyone,
I wonder would any of you be able to advise me here? My 16 week old lab has taken to (look away now if your squeemish!) licking/eating his poo. I caught her at it yesterday and I called her off and told her no but she just seemed very curious about it and kept returning to the spot so in the end I took her in and removed it. Last night she had diahorria in her pen (she never once soiled her pen until this) and also a vomit which has some rope in it which I identified as coming from my mop. Didnt eat as well as normal today and seemed a little quieter but still had her playtimes ect so I didnt think going to the vet was necessary - I put last nights incident down to her eating a string off the mop. This eve we head off out for some playtime and she does her business and again turns to eat it. I literally had to drag her away from it. Im concerned cos this cant be good for her. Vet wormed her two weeks ago, shes due her next vac in a week or two. Is there anyone who could shed some light on this for me? It has me very bothered ![]() Thanks xx |

Hi,
Dont be too worried. While unsightly it is very common for a dog to eat its own waste.
try putting some chopped courgette or pineapple into the dogs feed. Apparently courgette and pineapple arent as tasty the second time around and the dog will leave its waste alone . Also clean up after the dog as soon as possible to help break the habit.

Thanks Bartlett, I will try that see how it goes so. She is watching to see where I am now before she tries it so she knows Im not happy about it - cute as a fox she is!! I was mainly concerned that her interest in feaces could be a signal to something being up with her health (as well as it being truly disgusting)
