Well I haven't been on here for a while, and my reason was the departure of my much loved Great Dane Sylvia.  In my last few threads there were so many lovely comments on how well she looked for her age, and to be honest since she passed away in August I was too sad to post here.

Sylvia has started to lose her spark a week before she passed away but there were no symptoms of distress or illness.  We left the house one morning and when I returned later that day Sylvia was motionless in her bed... she went to sleep and never woke...

Oh Russkiy, im so sorry to hear about your Sylvia, thats very sad, at least she didnt seem to be in pain and didnt suffer. I think going in their sleep is the best and most peaceful way.

Oh no, so sudden..... there is some comfort in the fact that she didn't suffer with an illness for a long time, but that doesn't bring her back eh?
I'm so sorry for your lossHug

What a lovely way to go. Fast asleep and secure in her own bed. I know its little consolation to you but you know she didn't have any bad days of illness. So sorry for the loss of your girl.

I've just finished "FURmintaning" my 19 year old cat and was ruminating on the sad old fact that she is now not only the Matriarch in this family, but the fact that all her siblings are dead!

And, she's outlived three generations of our dogs as well?

Sorry, I'm not trying to steal this thread; just thinking aloud as to how some animals live along life whilst others don't!

But, I am the first to say that it is so much better when "we" all pass away in our own beds! No tubes, no heartache of family watching ... it just happened "overnight"!

My heart is with you, even if it happened months ago!
