Hi all,
We are moving house in a couple of weeks for a better life for the doggies
I'm just a bit concerned because up until now they have been in or at least had the option of being in all day and now we're planning on putting them outside during the day.
My GR (Bruce) barks when I put him out now - but only if he thinks I'm in the house and my Bernese (Skye) isn't really bothered either way. Bruce is 14 months old and I have completely spoiled him so he's used to being nearly attached to me
They will have plenty of shelter so I know it's not cruel in that way but I just don't want them to feel like they've done anything wrong or are now unloved.
Am I going mad? Do I need to do anything in particular to get them used to it?

could you ease them into it? provide tons of kongs and mental stimulation type toys and that'll keep them occupied at least! :)
ps can i just ask if you're renting and if so have you find it easy to find properties that will accept pets? i'll be in that position in a couple of weeks and am pretty nervous!

I can't really ease them into it unfortunately. We are moving on a Saturday and will be back in work on the Monday
Yes I rent and there are loads of places the accept pets, I have two dogs and two cats. In fairness though I live in Kildare and am moving even further into the sticks in Kildare...... We have only found one house that wouldn't allow pets because the owner was very into his garden. We are emigrating next year and really want to get the dogs used to being outside because I feel it's going to be harder to rent with dogs in Australia so at least if I can say they live outside during the day it might be a bit easier

I'd say the walk in the morning will tire them out probably til lunch time and at the end of the day at least they have each other for company, it'd be far worse to have one dog! Could you come home at lunch time and just visit with them for a bit, or maybe hire a dog walker even once or twice a week and see how that goes? maybe try them at it for a few days and they may surprise you by being absolutely fine! ps thanks for the advice re renting we're actually looking at kildare too, though we need to be near a train line so the more rural areas aren't an option - if theres any way you could pm me any properties or letting agents that were positive about pets that would be brilliant as im nervous about telling them we have pets and being refused :( |
