I had a call tonight from a client to say that her dog died last night, and she wanted to ring me cos she knew that I'd understand. Bailey was a little Westie cross - God only knows what with. He was found on the side of a mountain in a really bad way, he'd obviously been kicked around, they didn't know how old he was, but not a young dog. He was our first kennel guest, and has been a regular over the last year and a bit. He wasn't really a running around the field kind of dog, so Titch used to love taking him out for walks on his lead. He had surgery a few months ago on his back leg, so was on gentle lead exercise the last time that he came, and it was the same time that Vincent was allowed out for the first time, so me and the two boys would take them out for walks, along with Murphy, our old girl and Lobo, who can't walk very far cos of his back legs. They were really nice walks.

Apparently he seemed to be less energetic over the last 10 days, so he went to the vet and they thought he might have an infection, so gave him some antibiotics. Yesterday his owner had to carry him home from the field because he just didn't want to walk any further. Unfortunately late last night he started having difficulty in breathing and died very soon after.

Run free little man, you had a rough start to your life, but were very spoiled for your last 3 years, with a family who really loved you. We'll miss you coming to stay, and the way you would run back to your pen to see if there was any food waiting for you.

The first time that he came to stay, because he was the only dog in the kennels I felt sorry for him, so he stayed in the house, this is him on the settee with Gus.

What a sad story. Poor little guy, still he was well loved at the end and he knew it I'm sure. RIP.
Lovely picture of him and Gus.

Ah he was a gorgeous looking dog, it's great that his last few years were so good after such a rough start. RIP Bailey
