Do Vizslas Make Good City Pets?
- 20/11/2010
The Vizsla is a breed of dog that's quickly increasing in popularity. Many people are opting to get this Hungarian pointer/retriever mix, as its attractive looks and great demeanor are both appealing to potential dog owners.
The Vizsla is one of the most athletic dog breeds around, and it's extremely gentle around children. This makes it a very attractive option to those with homes that have backyards and children.
How about if you live in a city? Should you consider getting a Vizsla? Well, there are a few considerations you'll need to make in order to determine what your decision will be.
First of all, if your apartment is small, you may want to reconsider. The Vizsla is not only an active dog, but a clingy one at that. If you have a small place, expect your Vizsla to follow your every move. He or she may even try to sleep in the bed with you if you allow it!
On the positive side of things, they rarely bark, which makes for a nice factor when you're living in an apartment building. The neighbors will rarely complain about any noise that your Vizsla makes.
The biggest thing to consider, though, is the Vizsla's need for regular exercise. They say that a Vizsla needs at least 30-60 minutes of steady exercise on a daily basis in order to be fully happy. Without it, something will feel amiss for your dog.
If you can commit the time and find a park, this makes for an excellent breed. Otherwise, you may want to hold off until you find a house.
