Coats and Colors of French Bulldogs

French bulldogs are a lovely and adorable breed of dogs that come in a wide range of coat color. Beside the coat color, there are certain features that are dominant in this breed like the wide shoulder and the fold of the skin. However the coat color in the French bulldog has been a serious concern and debate as to which is the true color for the pure breed. Various clubs have their own way of vetting the color depending on the guidelines they have set.

There are several colors you can choose when it comes to the color variations coat of a French bulldog. The basic guidelines of choosing the color that you are looking for are provided by the French bulldog clubs and show standards French bulldog. American Kennel Club is the club that has set the official standards recognized by breeders far and wide. If your dog is not a pure breed they will be rated and give a score depending on how close the dog is to the pure breed.

If you are just looking for a home pet considering the color of the coat may be inconsequential unless you are very choosy when it comes. The coat color is only important if you will be taking your dog for competition where they insist that the dog must be in certain breed characteristics. It is a requirement by major breeding clubs that all the French bull dogs presented during the club competitions should conform to the breed characteristic and the most important being the color among other features.

When you are buying a French bulldog and you insist on the color you may have to delve deep into your pocket since they are more costly. The color of the bulldog is a determining factor on the price since as mentioned above the color is a determining factor when selecting the dogs that participate in competitions. Most Frenchies' clubs and organizations differ in the coat color standard necessary for the French Bulldogs to qualify.

Most common standards are; Brindle and white and all-brindle color combinations, fawn, white, and any colors. The following coat colors are not standard for the French bulldog; a solid black coat, absence of any brindle or white markings, mouse and liver, black and tan, black and white and white with black markings.

If your doggie does not qualify but still resembles the breed you should not be worried since color of the coat is not the only factor that distinguishes the breed. Although the breeders and the show organizers may be specific on the color you may still have a dog that has all the great qualities of the French bulldog. You should look at other features such as the eyes and the ears.

It is also important to not that there is a correlation in the appearance of the eyes and the coat color of the French bulldog. To sum it up the color of the French dog is important if you are purchasing the dog intending to participate in the competitions other wise you can consider having a pet with any of the available shades of the color.
