3 Tips on Using a Dog Treat Ball to Keep Your Dog From Boredom

  • 01/02/2014

You just purchased a new dog treat ball. You have been eager to get home and show it to your pup. However, after giving it to him, he doesn't seem to show any interest, even if it resembles something that should appeal to him.

You brought him to the vet however, there seems to be no symptoms of illness. In a case like this, sometimes it's difficult to comprehend with their emotions. Is he bored? Has there been no activities and interaction between the two of you? Have you been busy at work so it seems you have forgotten the glory days of fetching? Well it's never too late.

Do not ask for a refund of your newly purchased dog treat ball. Let me give you some ideas on how to turn things around. First off, you need to analyze the whole situation. Has he been left out of your attention most all the time? Have you been too busy with a lot of things? Are you too pre-occupied?

Let me give you three helpful tips:

  1. Add touches to it. To effectively entice your dog with his new toy, you must sugar coat it. Add touches to the ball. Tempt your dog with coatings on the ball that he loves licking. This technique has been common and has effectively worked. You can add smudge syrup, peanut butter, etc. on it. Do this more often and the toy soon becomes a potential treat. It would later become apparent that he has grown fond of the dog ball treat.

  2. The rewards system. If you have a couch potato dog, then get him to walk around the house or play fetch with him. Create a sense of desire for him to want the toy. If he isn't captivated by the shape, play with it with other family members. Make the canine feel that it's a tool for playing games. Dogs love to play games. You can even have him watch tv shows that illustrates dogs playing with dog treat balls. As soon as you have demonstrated the need for the toy, that dog is going to come begging for it. It becomes a necessity for him. Once it starts to captivate him, then provide tasks or preferred actions, and in return he gets the ball as a reward.

  3. Own it. Treat the dog ball as if you own it. It would be useless to play with the toy if you have no commitment to playing. To be able to enjoy a good fetching activity, the owner must be in sync with his dog. You must show the dog that the ball is of great value to you, that way he can adapt to it. He'll be able to widen his perspective on giving importance and value to the dog treat ball.

There are a lot of ways to enjoy a dog treat ball with your dog. One just needs to know his way around on how to give it a good start especially if your dog is not in the mood.
