Beauceron - A Large Dog Breed
- 31/10/2010
In France, Beauceron is one of the best-known sheepdogs. They are a large French herding dog that is noble, tall and strong. The Beauceron was then originally used as a hunting dog, but it has already been used as a herding dog for centuries. Being a police dog and a military dog as well is another use that the Beauceron is known of. They are also known as Berger de Beauce and Bas Rouge.
Personality
The Beauceron is intelligent and very trainable. They have natural guarding instinct and are very cautious on what's happening around them. The Beaucerons are known of their loyalty and are good with children if raised with them since puppyhood. They are also very independent in nature and domineering that's why this is not recommended for first time dog owner.
Temperament and Characteristics
The Beauceron is known to be a brave, highly intelligent and a faithful dog. They are fearless, vigilant and patient and it has an aptitude for obedience training and they are also quick and understand thoroughly what their master's desires are. The Beauceron is a great natural guard dogs whose appearance and behavioral attributes command respect. They are even happier when they are having their activities like exercising in large and open spaces. Herding is already an instinct with the Beauceron, which made them herd everything they see unless they are trained to do otherwise. They are calm, loyal and are always have their unique ways of pleasing their masters.
The Beaucerons are safe enough to be with the children, provided that the children know fairly at their early age on how to handle the Beauceron and provided also that the animals do not mind being pushed at a lower place within the animal hierarchy of your house.
The Beausceron knows of their characteristics as a noble and commanding dog. If you as their owner don't know it, never show it to them for they will have the tendency to assume that they are at a higher place in the pack hierarchy than you, and will act as one accordingly. If these things happen, you may have the inability to train them properly and may causes aggressive behavior and destructive activities.
Beauceron's ability to lead makes them ideal as a watchdog because it "splits the difference" between the fault of a smaller terriers and the large retriever-type dogs. The Beaucerons' menacing appearance and pure size made them a natural deterrent to dangerous individuals. But if strangers are obviously starting to become hostile, like if they tend to break your home, if they threaten your family and if they are highly suspicious, your Beauceron will now take charge and will defend his people. This is one of the best quality the Beauceron have, but this also mean that you should be very careful on raising you voice to any of your family member when the Beauceron is around, no matter how high they might think of you, there might be a tendency that they will defend your family member.
