Using a Dog Harness and Other Accessories to Help Your Dog

  • 18/05/2014

Most people love their pets a lot and treat them just like a member of the family. This means getting them their own clothing, providing them with relaxation areas, purchasing them expensive food and other things that make any pet feel like a part of the family. However, there are certain pets that suffer from different disabilities after a certain age, with dogs suffering from dog arthritis being a prime example of this.

Most dog owners are unaware of this problem until it is too late and trying to correct a severe joint disability is not easy, regardless of the treatment method chosen. There are several accessories that can be purchased, such as a dog car ramp and a dog harness, to help the dog move to the car or to help the owner transport the dog upstairs, but preventing the disability is much easier than trying to help the dog when it is too late.

To help with this, certain food supplements have been released that contain ingredients helpful to the dog. These supplements contain glucosamine and Chondroitin, which are some of the best ingredients for regenerating the cartilage of the joints, effectively reducing mobility problems to a minimum. The ingredients are also used in supplements and medicine taken by humans, so their effectiveness is proven.

The supplements do not have any side effects whatsoever and are usually created to have a nice taste and make them easy to swallow, so your dog will not even notice that it is eating something different. The effects should be visible in a matter of weeks, but this is not a fast process and it make take a little longer. The treatment needs to be continued even after results are visible, because regenerating the cartilage also takes a while.

Unlike medical treatment, the cost of supplements is much lower. However, this is not a miracle pill that will make your 13-year-old dog start running in the park despite being affected by severe arthritis. It is simply a way of providing your dog with the necessary ingredients and vitamins that its body needs to synthesise enough glucosamine and keep the cartilage healthy. It can be used to help dogs suffering from mild arthritis or it can be used as a prevention measure.

In both cases, frequent visits to the vet are required, especially if the dog has been diagnosed with arthritis at a young age. Some may also want to try medical treatment but, besides being expensive, that does not offer any guarantees either and it can cause discomfort to your dog. Natural solutions are usually preferable and their price is much lower.

If it is already too late for your dog, as the dog arthritis is too advanced and there is nothing that you can do to stop it now, then you can at least get the accessories mentioned above to help your dog as much as possible. Getting into the car, for example, is probably a huge problem, and lifting your dog to place it in the car may also be a problem, depending on its size. For cases like these, the dog car ramp is perfect as it allows your dog to safely get in the car without any fear of injury, and it also eliminates fear and anxiety.

Dogs who know they are having problems moving are especially fearful when trying to get in a car, so this solves their problem and allows them to easily climb up. The best part is that it does not require any training, as all dogs instinctively know how to use the ramp. The dog harness plays a similar part but it should be noted that it is generally used only for smaller dogs.

It can be used for large dogs as well but lifting an 80 pound dog may be a problem for some people. The harness can help lift the rear of the dog, or the entire dog, providing you with an easy way of helping it reach certain destinations. It is particularly useful if your dog is trying to climb the stairs and failing, because you can simply lift its rear and help it. There are numerous other accessories for dogs that can be used to provide your dog with comfort and to help it now that it is having difficulties, so take a look online and see what other accessories you think could come in handy.
