Training Your Dog Can Be Fun, If Done Properly

  • 24/03/2015

Dog training is a subject that has to be handled with care. Your dog has to be trained but it has to be done the humane way. The training must not incorporate factors that might harm it morally or physically. Here are some tips to ensure that your dog is well trained in given circumstances.

Try to listen to it

Never insist your dog on doing things that it does not want. If it is uncomfortable with something just give it the space to accommodate. It is really not necessary that it behaves the same with everyone. Find out the source of its discomfort.

Be affectionate

Affection is something that your dog deserves. People need to be very clear with their affection area. When your dog has done something wrong, it needs to be rectified. At the same time it deserves praise and affection when it behaves well. Be sure you let him know, he has been a good boy. That is how he will learn to retain good manners.

Tell him what it is that you want it to do

If your dog jumps up at someone, do not tell him no. Instead tell him to sit, for that is what he actually needs to know. He might be confused with a no. A no might mean to him to jump higher. Do not confuse him.

Consistency

All the members of the family must have the same messages to the dog. For instance, if you are asking the dog to get down the couch, the message from everybody should be down. One member cannot call it down while another calls it no. It's better to have all your family members present when you are training your dog.

Expectations must be realistic

For the past seven years your dog has jumped up on people saying hi. You cannot expect him to change this behavior in just a day. It takes time, and you must realise that. Give him the much needed time. With time there are no problems that cannot be sorted.

Feeding benefits

Unlike the thoughts of many, feeding has its benefits. Check with the veterinarian for the adequate amount of protein and stuff that he or she needs. While less will give you a sick dog, more will make you go on vet bills.

Follow these quick and easy tips, to get a healthy, well-behaved loving dog and cat.
