Millions of people throughout England suffer from a mental or physical disability. Some of these may not be clear to see and for some, they suffer alone. Emotional support animals can be given to those who need them most, providing support, comfort, safety, and company for those with a range of mental and physical disabilities. Here are just some of the amazing benefits of emotional support animals.

Rid Yourself of Anxiety

Pets have a great way of relieving some of the anxiety from our lives. If you are feeling incredibly anxious about a certain event, petting your companion can help you focus on another stimulus and lower your anxiety levels. They are also non-judgemental and are great to talk to about fears and worries. If you are a dog person, having a play with your dog can alleviate anxiety. If going out of the house causes anxiety, you now have a reason to go out and you will not be alone, as your dog will be with you. Emotional support animals such as dogs are there to look after you, so ensure you look after them too by feeding them natural dog food as it is your responsibility to ensure your dog is looked after.

Company

One of the biggest reasons that we want a pet is for the company. If we live alone, a pet in the house can help us feel more secure and safe. For those with a mental or physical disability, being alone can be even more terrifying and so an emotional support animal can alleviate this fear. Being alone in the house can worsen mental illnesses such as depression and therefore for these people, having a pet around can be extremely important. It also gives them another focus and a reason to get up in the morning, as although they may not feel like looking after themselves, they have a pet to look after now. This can motivate them to take better care of themselves.

Pets Can Help Your Heart

It is a proven fact that petting animals can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. For anyone suffering from an illness that causes their blood pressure to rise, having an emotional support animal could help them lower this when they feel any symptoms approaching. High blood pressure can cause many other ailments to occur and therefore getting it under control is the best way to ensure this doesn’t happen. Those suffering from anxiety may also suffer from raised blood pressure when feeling especially anxious or experiencing a panic attack. An emotional support animal can help calm you down and is a good focus when you need to distract your mind. You also need to walk certain pets such as dogs, which will also increase your fitness levels and help your heart.

Emotional support animals are a great way to help those who really need extra support and love. Pets are a natural way of helping get rid of bad thoughts and brightening your mood, as well as being fun and a companion for life.
