How To Get Old Dog Urine Smell Out Of Carpet
- 24/07/2020
According to the National Pet Owners Survey, about 85 million families in the U.S alone own a pet, and around 63 million own a dog as a pet. Having a pet at home has several benefits, including improved health and decreased blood pressure, cholesterol, and feeling of loneliness.
My Dog Peed on My Carpet, What Can I DO?
Let’s face it, no matter how much you try to keep your pet from peeing indoors; it can happen at times. Don’t fret, there are some tried and tested ways to get the urine and smell out of the carpet!
1. Soak it
As soon as your dog pees, immediately place a paper towel on the spot to soak up the urine as much as possible. Cover the area with a paper towel and apply pressure to soak as much as possible. Delaying soaking can cause the smell to stay for a prolonged period, after cleaning and soaking up the urine throw the paper towel in the trash can, preferably in the outdoor trash can to avoid any persistent smells.
2. Clean with Enzymes
Using cleaners with enzymes can help you clean your rugs and mats efficiently without any lingering smells. There are several cleaners available in the market that you can use with the instructions written on the packages. You must use these cleaners as soon as possible to get the best results.
3. Baking Soda Solution
Using a baking soda solution is also an effective way to get rid of urine smell from your carpet. You must sprinkle baking soda on the damp carpet in a generous amount and let it soak for some time. For maximum absorption, you should leave it overnight and vacuum it the next day.
4. Keeping It Dry
If the stain is fresh and damp, then it’s more likely to stink more. So after cleaning the damp area from the carpet or the rug, you must thoroughly dry the mat to avoid bad smells. Moreover, try to open the windows and ensure ventilation after cleaning up.
5. Vinegar Solution
You can also use homemade solutions to get rid of your dog’s urine smell. An equal mixture of white vinegar and water can be made in a spray bottle. Wear gloves and use the homemade spray on the carpet to get rid of the stains and smell.
6. Professional Cleaning Services
If you are unable to get the smell out from any of the methods mentioned above, then a professional cleaning service is your last resort. Carpet Cleaning Kent, a professional cleaning service in the U.K., says that you should get your carpet cleaned every 3 months even if your pet doesn’t pee your carpet.
