Fantastic Tips For Showing At Dog Shows
- 14/02/2010
- Categorized in: Showing and Events
Attending dog shows can be absolutely delightful and extremely rewarding whether or not you win, but you have to be fully prepared in advance. You cannot just turn up to one of the thousands of dog shows out there unprepared. However, knowing where to begin to get ready can be a major problem for some that do not have professional resources at their fingertip. The tips below can give you that head start though and get you well on your way to successful dog shows:
- Make sure that your dog is fully registered with the American Kennel Club because you will not be able to take part in dog shows if he or she is not.
- Your dog should be in the best of health if you plan to show him or her so make sure that he or she has been checked out by a vet and is completely up to date with inoculations.
- Do your research. There are plenty of dog shows websites and books out there so make the most of them because they can give you tips on grooming, handling and much more to help improve your chances in the ring! If you want to know something and cannot find the answer anywhere else then contact the AKC, your breeder or the organizers of local dog shows and they will be happy to help!
- Go to a few dog shows as a spectator because this will infinitely help you to decipher what it is that they look for in a good show dog.
- Attend obedience and handling classes with your beloved pooch. Not only will your dog learn how he or she is expected to behave but you will also learn to become a better handler for future dog shows that you enter.
- Finally, swot up on the rules that all entrants into dog shows have to abide by. You can get all the information you need to be able to show your dog effectively and schedule your preparation in advance!
