Electronic Dog Products
- 01/02/2014
Electronic dog products are similar to electronics for humans, in that they make every day living safer, more secure and fun. Some products aid in training a dog to hunt or stay in the yard, while others teach a dog to stop barking. Electronic dog doors give the convenience of not having to let the dog out. While electronic dog toys help keep a playful pooch busy
When buying dog products always keep safety in mind. Read the manufacturers owner's manual before use. With electronic dog toys be sure to follow recommended size guidelines. Not following guidelines can end with a trip to the emergency veterinarian because the family dog got carried away with a toy and swallowed it.
Electronic dog toys are an excellent way to keep the family pet stimulated and on its toes. Light up dog toys have light emitters under the surface of a hard nylon or rubber that light up to catch a dogs attention. Sound emitting electronic dog toys are animal shaped plush toys that can make a variety of sounds to engage a dog. Motion toys can be as simple as a plush that shakes and vibrates when touched by a dog or can me a hard rubber toy that bounces and rattles in order to appeal to the dog's chase instinct.
For families that want to keep the dog in the yard, but don't want to put up a fence, an electronic dog training collar coupled with a containment system can be the answer. The system can be as simple as a transmitter that plugs into a wall outlet and wirelessly transmits a signal to the collar receiver. A wireless system can safely cover up to half an acre of land while the coverage of a wired system is limited by the type of wire bought. A wired system has a much smaller transmitter that can be wall-mounted and plugs into an outlet. Both systems use an electrostatic collar that can be programmed to different 'shock' settings. Many people worry about the pain involved with an electrostatic shock. On higher settings there is quite a jolt of energy, but no agonizing pain. It is a simple correction to get the dog's attention.
A favorite product for most families is an electronic dog door. It is a safe way for the family pet to come and go as needed. Traditional dog doors always carry the risk of something or someone following the dog into the house, but not an electronic dog door. One type of door works when a magnet on the collar key cancels out the signal of the door and disengages the lock. The other type of door uses an RFID signal, either in a collar key or in a veterinarian inserted chip. The door reads the signal in the chip and allows access. Both types of door can be either battery powered or plugged into a wall outlet, while the collars do not require either.
