Dog Essentials - 5 Things To Buy for Your New Dog
- 02/09/2016
If you are a new dog owner or soon to become one, then congratulations! You are about to enjoy many years of loving bond with your new pet friend. Not to mention all the surprising health benefits you will have. Now, an important element of being a responsible pet owner is ensuring that you have all the equipment you need to keep your pet safe and healthy.
In order to provide the best care for your new dog, it is essential you buy the following five things when welcoming your new dog into your home and family.
1. A Dog Bed
All dogs need somewhere warm and comfortable to sleep. When choosing the best bed for your dog, there are a number of factors to take into consideration. Firstly, the size of your dog should influence your choice of dog bed as it is important there is plenty of space for your dog to lie comfortably. Secondly, the material the bed is made from is something to think about. While a fabric bed will need washing, they are probably the most comfortable option. On the other hand, a plastic bed is easy to wipe clean, but you will need additional bedding to ensure your dog suffers no discomfort.
2. A Dog Collar
Collars serve many purposes. Their first use is for fastening on the dog lead when you take your pet for a walk. Exercising your pet regularly is essential for their health, but they must always be on a lead to ensure their safety and other people’s safety. A dog training collar may also come in handy to train him properly. The second purpose is to attach an identity tag. Even when pets are micro-chipped, it still makes sense to give your dog an identification tag. This means that if someone finds your dog when it is lost, they can easily reunite you without the necessity of having the dog scanned to find its address.
3. Food and Water Bowl
One of the most important elements of care you will need to give your dog is providing them with food and drink. To do this, you will need food and water bowls. Choose bowls that are appropriate to the size of your dog and the amount of food they will eat. Clean the bowls after each feed which will prevent bacteria from building up and making your dog unwell.
4. Grooming Tools
Grooming your dog is not just about making them look good; it is also about keeping them healthy. Therefore, grooming tools are an essential purchase. Grooming aerates the coat, promotes good hair growth, improves circulation and prevents a build-up of grease. The latter can potentially cause blocked pores and cysts, both of which you need to avoid.
5. Dog Toys
Dogs want to have fun just as much as humans do and that is only one reason why you should buy your dog toys. Having something to play with will prevent boredom and loneliness during any periods when you are not at home with your dog. Another advantage is that dog toys encourage dogs to exercise and this can help them to maintain a healthy weight and keep fit.
These five things are the most important items to purchase before getting a dog. Each of these plays an important role in keeping your dog safe, healthy and happy.
