Dog Dental Care
- 05/10/2019
While many people don’t think about it, dog dental care should be an important part of your pets grooming routine. Just like people, dogs can accumulate tarter and bacteria in their mouths. Not only does this make your pets breath smell bad, but it can have adverse health effects and even shorten your pet’s lifespan. If proper dental care is not provided, the bacteria can run through your dog’s entire system, adversely affecting his internal organs and limiting his quality of life.
Dog dental care is necessary to prevent your dogs from having cavities and tartar which can adversely affect his attitude as well as his long-term health. Here are a few tips that you can follow for proper dental care for your canine loved ones.
1. Brushing – A dog’s set of canine teeth also needs to be brushed. Of course, you are the one who has to do it as a dog cannot brush teeth on its own. Do so at least once a week using dog toothbrushes from pet shops or pet accessories stores. Different varieties can be bought online and offline.
2. Fighting Tartar – Yes, dogs are also susceptible to tartar. The best and probably the easiest way to make your dog fight tartar is by giving him a bone to chew regularly. Raw marrow or knuckle bones are the best type.
3. Dog Teeth Scaling – Now, not everyone believes that dog’s teeth need to be scaled. This is entirely up to you as scaling can prove to be expensive as you have to bring your dog to the vet. In most cases, dog dental care can be sufficient with brushing and bones.
4. Choosing to feed your dog natural dog foods is also another option. Preparing your dog’s meals can be done as long as you can come up with nutritionally complete meals. Giving your dog natural foods can provide him all his needs if prepared properly and it can also be lighter on the wallet too. Be wary, though, not to give your pet table scraps as these are incomplete sources of nutrition.
