Dog Bed Buyer's Guide

  • 05/10/2013

When choosing the right dog beds for your dogs, be sure that they are large enough so they are comfortable, also make sure they are made well and when I say that I mean of good quality, like thick enough and so they don't collapse when a dog of significant weight gets on them or lies on them. You also want to make sure you buy one that has a cover that can with stand if they should have an accident, so they could always be washed in your machine. You also want something that doesn't attract hair, because it's almost impossible to get that off no matter how many of those tapes or brushes you buy at the store.

I like to think that it would be like you choosing a bed for yourself, something attractive in color and possible a nice pattern of which there are plenty to choose from so it will look good in your home. Also as I mentioned before be sure it's the right size, they like to stretch out and you want them to have room to do that. There are several places in the home where they are usually put, the bedroom seems to be the most popular so they can be close to you and you can keep an eye on them.

I have found in our experiences that keeping them in the room we spend the most time in (which is the living room) makes the most sense for us, they know were there and even when they wake from a nap they can always see us. It's a comfort issue and they don't feel abandoned as though you just left them there. We have left our dogs in the other rooms after they get a little bigger all night and they don't really seem to have any issues about being forgotten.

So again I stress don't buy cheap or you will be replacing them on a regular basis. This will be more costly in the long run. You want the right size, thick enough about three to four inches, that will hold up better and more comfort. You also want to make sure the cover can be washed because as you well know accidents do happen. And as a final statement try and get a dog bed with a cover that doesn't attract hair, it can be virtually impossible to get it off no matter what fancy tools you might buy.
