In the past, the majority of owners have put their dogs in kennels when they go on vacation or a short break or have simply stayed at home. This has changed in the recent past because more and more destinations have declared themselves dog friendly so as not to miss out on an opportunity to bring in more revenue. Families do want to take their dogs with them on vacation and now they can so it is a fun activity that you can share!

Taking your dog on holiday with you can be an awful lot of fun and can be considered an extended activity together. You dog will remain with the family and so will not feel anxious about his or her surroundings but will want to explore and go on new adventures so it is up to you to make the most of the opportunity. However, there are some things you should check out before you leave the house to make sure that it could be fun for both of you:

  • Local parks and beaches – Although the hotel or camp that you stay at on vacation may accept dogs, that does not mean that all of the local parks and beaches that you may wish to take your dog to will. Check them out in advance to make sure that there is plenty you can do with your dog.
  • The surroundings – Is the place you stay safe? Is it enclosed? Is there anything that could spook your dog? If the answer to any of these is yes then you may want to reconsider your destination.
  • The availability of facilities – Are there places you can take your dog to socialise? Are they accredited? There should be some sort of facilities available so you do not have to leave your dog alone for too long if you are going to a museum or similar place in which dogs are not allowed. You should think of the both of you if you want to have a lot of fun and no hassle!
