Dogs can be fed many things, ranging from cheap discount kibbles to a grain free dog food. No matter the size or breed of your dog, from a Great Dane or a teacup Poodle, most dogs can benefit from feeding them a grain-free diet. Such diets are closer to what a dog would eat naturally.

Many centuries ago, the wolves joined man and became their companions. The dogs of today are descended from those ancestors. Those wolves and other wild dogs would eat whatever they could catch or find. Most of them preferred a diet of meat, usually organ meats if they had a chance. They would eat some fruit and grasses depending on the area in which they live.

Dogs are carnivores and their teeth and bodies are designed as such. A dogs body naturally brakes down proteins and a few plant materials. They are not able to break down a large number of grains and low protein products.

The average dog meal produced today is full of fillers which a dogs body has no use for. By feeding your dogs a diet which is specially designed with their body needs in mind, you can help your best friend feel and look better. If a food works with the body instead of against it, the dog gets the nutrients they need.

Another benefit to feeding them a grain free diet is the fact you can feed them less and still get the same amount of food value. When a dogs body gets the protein and other types of nutrients it needs, then your dog is satisfied with less.

Also, many grained dogs foods can use inferior meats and by-products which have very little food value to your pets. Most high-quality foods use organ meats and other good quality products to get your dogs the best they can. When a product uses the organs, it can give more of the vitamins and minerals your dog's body can use.

Along with the extra vitamins and minerals, a non-grain diet can provide, the extra protein also supplies the extra amino acids to help your companions build strong lean muscles and continue to be more active throughout their lifespan.

One drawback to feeding canine food which contains grains is the possibility of gluten allergies. When an animal eats a product which is not native to them, they have a higher risk of being allergic to them. When you are concerned about the health of your pet or are unsure about the best type of food to provide, be sure to consult your veterinarian to find the best fit.

A grain-free dog food can help your faith companion healthy and happy. Just as you do not feel good when you eat unhealthy foods, your dog is the same way. So the next time you are shopping for a meal for your best friend, treat them as you would yourself. Give them a food which will be welcomed by their bodies. A high protein, low grain diet can reduce the side effects of a natural diet.
