  • 07/04/2020
dental-care.jpgYour dog needs your attention and love for him to nurture. However, all this is useless if you do not give his health due consideration too. Apart from the other things one aspect that most pet owners are prone to ignoring is their dental care. If you have also made this mistake we are here to help and tell you 6 tips to keep your canine’s teeth clean.

Discuss with the vet

If your dog’s teeth are in a really bad condition you may speak to your vet about it. Initially, he may suggest the best dog toothpaste to use. Post that, he could also suggest professional cleaning once in a while. However, regular benefits can be seen only by having proper dental cleaning suggestions daily.

Train the dog to open mouth

The dogs are not ok with someone peeping in their mouths now and then. For cleaning to be done as per schedule, they should be comfortable in doing so. Start by practicing how to open their mouths and let you see the cause of worry. No dog would be comfortable in the first go so it is better to build trust with him by stroking him at the back or doing something which he likes.

Suitable toothbrush

You may have bought the toothpaste however a good toothbrush is also required. Mostly their toothbrushes are finger coverings which make it easy for you to use them. Start from the front teeth and then move to the back. Rub softly in round circular movements to ensure proper cleaning. Try to reach the back teeth if possible but even if you are not able to do so leave it. Your dog has a habit of keeping the back teeth clean.

Use chew toys

Sometimes the dog’s teeth are clean enough and the vet suggests using chew toys. These toys stimulate the dog’s senses and since his jaws work hard the dirt in the teeth is removed on its own. Even some flossing effect is generated by using chew toys. Some treats help in keeping teeth clean but only your vet can recommend them.

Diet

What your dog eats can determine the quality of his teeth. You should ensure that he eats only healthy food as that choice only you can make. An inappropriate diet could also lead to the creation of bacteria in his teeth thus making your work tougher. Mostly a meat-based diet with a combination of grains and corn would be perfect in such situations.

Keep checking for gum disease

You have done all that is possible from your side. But, to see that the teeth do not get infected with any gum disease you need to keep checking regularly. If you see his breath odor worsening it could be signs of severe infection and consulting the vet should be considered.

Taking care of your pet’s teeth is very important. If you have taken care of that chances are his overall health would also remain on top. Whenever you feel that there is an infection or any problem you must consult a vet to address the issue as soon as you can.
