5 Things You Can Do To Ensure Your Dog Stays Healthy
- 02/07/2018
Dogs are the only creatures on earth to love humans unconditionally and be there for their owners at all times.
In fact, science believes that dogs are able to guess their master’s mood and would often even take steps to cheer ‘em up. This shows just how much they care, and if they care for you then you should also care for them.
Dogs can sense your mood, but you cannot do it, which is why you must pay attention to signs that tell if something is wrong with your pet dog.
Most households purchase or adopt puppies and not adult dogs. This allows families to literally take the dog as a family member and know him better while growing up.
We feel for our pets as they are important for us, which is why it is important to be careful of their health.
For a longer life, it is extremely important to make sure that your dog has a healthy lifestyle, which is why we have compiled a list of 5 things you can do to ensure your dog stays healthy.
1. Pay attention to what you are feeding your dog
Diet is the most important aspect of keeping your dog healthy. It controls more than just the weight of your dog.
It affects the condition of their teeth, fur etc., and even control their moods. Make sure that you feed your dog a well-balanced diet and avoid feeding your dog foods that are not meant for dogs.
The biggest debate seems to be between commercially produced pet food and raw food. The truth is that each option has its own benefit, but you still need to be careful because each has its own side effects as well.
Also, many of us like to feed our pets the same food that we eat, which also includes foods such as ketchup, pizza and okra etc. This might have a very bad effect on the animal, so make sure to search for terms like ‘can dogs eat ketchup’ etc. before you feed such foods to your pet dogs.
Moreover, remember that the quantity of the food is just as important as the quality as according to a survey in 2011 keeping your dog hydrated and feeding it dog 25% less than the recommended amount can increase its lifespan by up to two years.
2. Exercise your dog regularly
Exercising is just as important for dogs as it is for humans. It helps to maintain muscle mass, and keep the dog’s weight in check. Other than this, exercising can also take care of your pet’s cardiovascular system.
Take your dog out for walks and make sure your dog stays healthy and active.
3. Get your dog checked on a regular basis
Make sure that you get your pet checked on a regular basis at your local vet to make sure your dog is fit and healthy. This is important even if your dog shows no signs of ill health.
Regular checkups can help identify any potential diseases your pet may have and help control the disease in its initial stages before it can do any serious damage to your pet.
4. Stimulate their minds
You can extend your dog’s life by keeping your dog busy with mind stimulating games. Try to teach your dog new tricks to make sure they stay healthy.
It is very important to spend time with your pet as dogs get attached and can show ill health if they do not get enough attention from their master.
5. Maintain oral hygiene
It is extremely important for you to brush your dog’s teeth on a regular basis, as overlooking it may cause plaque to develop and eventually result in a periodontal disease.
Bacterial infection in the mouth due to improper dental hygiene can also cause heart diseases and organ damage in dogs, which is why it is important to keep your dog’s oral health in check at all times.
