10 Signs of Cancer in Dogs
- 01/04/2010
- Categorized in: Health
One of the most epidemic conditions we can keep vigilant for in our animals is cancer. There are certain signs and symptoms that can signal cancer in dogs. Similar symptoms can signal other diseases as well, so don't panic.
10 Signs of Cancer in Dogs
1. Abnormal bumps, growths, or swelling.
2. Sores that are not healing.
3. Loss of appetite or weight loss.
4. Difficulty in urinating, defecating, or breathing.
5. Any bleeding or discharge from any orifice.
6. Bad mouth odor.
7. Difficulty eating or swallowing.
8. Chronic vomiting or diarrhea.
9. Stiffness, or lameness, or difficulty exercising.
10. Coughing.
The best thing to do is to do manual exams of your dog with your hands. Run your hands over their body and be aware of any lumps, bumps, swollen lymph nodes, or sores. You should try and do this on a weekly basis. It is really easy to do as you are normally loving and petting your dog all the time anyway, you just need to make sure you cover the body and focus in on any abnormalities.
If your dog seems unusually lethargic then bring him in for a checkup to your vet. If you find a lump, bump, or a sore, don't hold off bringing him in to have him examined. Your vet can look at it and determine whether or not a biopsy and surgical removal is necessary.
Prevention is the best measure along with doing your weekly checks. Feed your dog the best food possible. Make sure that they get adequate exercise so that they do not become obese.
Cancer is not the end of the road for your pet. Catching it early is the key to treating it appropriately. Good prevention by diet and exercise should be the first step in your prevention program.
