Are Huskies Good Pets?
- 18/02/2014
Just like most breeds of dogs, the Siberian Husky can possibly be a fantastic pet! The crucial point is to ascertain that the traits, attributes and needs of the dog match the traits, properties and needs of its interested owner. To resolve the question Are Huskies Good Pets correctly it is best to learn a bit more about this magnificent animal and then see how you match up with each other.
Native to Siberia, the Siberian Husky were bred and taught by the nomadic tribe, the Chukchi, and are among the oldest breed of dogs in existence. Their functions were not just sled dogs and they were at the same time wonderful companion animals. Even entrusted with sleeping alongside the children of the tribe to keep them warm throughout the ice-cold winters nights.
Siberian Huskies are also blessed with tremendous abilities in the areas of speed, endurance and strength. In fact, back in 1925, they were called upon to help rescue the children of Nome, Alaska during a serous outbreak of Diphtheria. Noble, smart and strong is the husky but the question still remains... are Huskies good pets?
Physical Attributes of the Husky
Not as big as an Alaskan Malamute, the Siberian Husky male weighs around 60 pounds when fully grown. At the shoulders they will stand about 2 feet tall and without a doubt love activity of any kind! In both height and weight, the female husky is slightly smaller. Siberian Huskies are incredibly intelligent and extremely active. As a pack animal, they love being in a group and hate to be alone. Quality time with their master is longed for by the husky!
With a large variety of facial markings and coat colors such as silvers, reds, grays and of course the traditional blacks and whites, Huskies are great looking animals too! And that's before we even get to the eyes! From the head turning cool blue to the lovely deep brown, a Siberian's eyes regularly attract glowing comments and admiration. They can also have multiple colors in one eye and even different colored eyes which always attracts attention. People have also long admired the cheeky and slightly mischievous facial and eye expressions of the husky.
The Siberian Husky is a match made in heaven for anyone who wants a companion to share physical activities with. The deep breeding of these animals means they can run and run and run. And at a good pace too! They are at their happiest when they are active with their master irrespective of whether you are running, biking, brisk walks or jogging. It will be very rare if your Siberian Husky runs out of energy before you do!
Are Huskies Good Pets When It Comes To Training?
Yes, absolutely! Huskies need to have their intelligence tested and stimulated and as a result they love the challenges a training environment brings. Huskies see training as play and with rewards, positive reinforcement and heaps of love and feedback they will learn tasks and behavior quickly and easily. Simple tasks and commands are easily recognized and you will be amazed at just how much a Siberian Husky can be taught. Anything from completing a full agility course and even to obey silent hand signals.
Are Huskies Good Pets in the Love And Affection Stakes?
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! These animals really are beautiful creatures and crave human contact and interaction. Once you are established as the pack leader, your husky will connect itself to you forever. In return for you loving and caring for him it will provide you with a wealth of loyalty and great devotion for the rest of their days. Although the Siberian loves to run and play, provided that you are together this will be one happy pooch! Prepare to share your bed, your couch, your favorite outside chair and pretty much everything else accessible!
So at the end of the day, if you are an active human with a lot of energy to burn and loads of love to give (and receive!) then there is a Siberian Husky looking for you! Make no mistake, this dog demands lots of love. Lots of quality time spent together and loads of physical activity. However the rewards you will get from this amazing animal will pay you back exponentially!
If you are that person, then back to the original question "Are Huskies Good Pets?" The answer is definitely a big, HUGE, YES!
