Anatolian Shepherd Dogs

The Anatolian Shepherd Dog is a breed of dog which originated in Anatolia (central Turkey.) It is Large, rugged, powerful and impressive, possessing great endurance and agility. It stands 27 to 32 inches (69 to 81 cm) at the withers and weighs between 80 and 150 pounds (36 to 68 kg), with females on the smaller side and males on the larger side.
The coat can be any color or length. The Anatolian is a muscular breed, with thick neck, broad head, and sturdy body. Its lips are tight to its muzzle and it has triangular drop ears.
The Anatolian was developed to be independent and forceful, responsible on its own for guarding its master's flocks. Anatolian Shepherd Dog s are Alert and intelligent, calm and observant. These traits make it more challenging as a pet; owners of dogs of this breed must determinedly socialize the dogs to turn them into appropriate companions. They are, after all, intelligent dog and they sometimes exercise this intelligence at inconvenient times.
Their intelligence, sensitivity, and desire to please, combine to make them very trainable dogs. But all training should be undertaken from a positive and motivational they learn quickly but might choose not to obey; this is not generally a dog for a beginning or shy owner. They are good watch dogs & alarm the family if it smells suspicion. They become very protective of other animals in the household, and will treat them as their "flock." They have also been known to kill bears to protect their charges.
They will generally get along with other animals provided they have been introduced to them when they are still young.
Anatolian Shepherd Dog Puppies needs lot of caring, intensive socializing, firm but loving discipline. These dogs mature quite slowly, reaching full adulthood at about four years old.
Anatolian Shepherds are not recommended for apartment life. This breed needs a lot of exercise. They do best when they can run free in their own fenced-in yard.
Most common health issues cited by owners were dermatologic, musculoskeletal, and lipomas.
It protects flocks and serves as a shepherd's companion.
