A Few Facts About Alaskan Malamute Dogs
- 25/10/2010
Alaskan malamute dogs are among the largest in the world. This rugged breed is ideal for use as working dogs especially in colder climates. Before adopting or buying one, find out more interesting facts about this wonderful dog breed.
The unforgiving Arctic landscape was its original habitat. Early Arctic explorers were quick to employ this dog's superb strength in their expeditions. They were originally used to pull sleds carrying vital supplies.
Its thick coat makes short work of even the toughest icy weather. In later years, they were used for search and rescue missions. These dogs were also used for pulling sleds for racing and competition.
Alaskan malamute training will not be a problem with its intelligence. This is just perfect since it also has the stamina to keep going further than other dog breeds. Keeping this dog active certainly has its rewards.
Mals, as they are affectionately called, can be a handful for inexperienced dog trainers. Just keeping this dog to stay put and listen is already a challenge in itself. A lot of exercise is needed to diffuse all that energy and develop all those muscles needed for pulling.
This dog can also be stubborn and aggressive. The key is to start dog training as early as possible. Owners should establish their dominance as early as possible to earn their respect.
You may already be thinking of getting one. But before you do, conduct a fair amount of research so you know what to expect and what to do with your pet.
