Isn't it funny how we never forget our great dogs who have gone to the bridge. My first dog Sam left seven years ago this Saturday. He was a golden cocker who was a gift to my sister and I. She had an obsession with long eared dogs and we crossed off the days on the calender from April 9th for 8 weeks until his arrival. I could bore you with chapters about him but he absolutely adored me and became my shadow for 13 and a half years. But on Nov 5th, his battle with heart failure became too much and I had to accept that I owed it to my best friend to end his suffering. He lay across my lap as the vet ended his struggle. He just put his head on my arm and was gone. I remember how hard it was and even now, I still have a little cry over it. But I am happy I was there. He started my love of golden cockers and my two now remind me of him every day. So sleep well my sweet boy. Seven years of chasing birdies, cyclists and motorbikes over the bridge:-)

Ah he was. He wouldn't let a soul within three feet of me:-) . We walked some serious miles together. I used to whisper "birdies" into his ear when he was fast asleep and he'd do a little growl and the small tail would go mad! Alfie does this too. Must be a cocker thing! I think whoever made golden cockers made them just for me:-)
